Life-Choice Memoir Process Reflection3/24/2018

In Hills Like White Elephants, Ernest Hemingway tells a story about a man & a woman & the situation that they’re in. The story took place in Madrid, Spain at a train station. Throughout the story the man & the woman discuss the woman having a procedure that the man wants her to have. She doesn’t want the man to leave her or to be mad with her so she agrees to having the procedure even though she doesn't want to deep down inside her.
Does she stay in her relationship with the man? My prediction is that she did stay with the man. I think she stayed with the man because she doesn’t want the man to like get mad with her or leave her. She was willing to go through a procedure & go against herself & what she really wants just for the man. I think if she was already willing to do that just for him, then why would she leave him. Although she doesn’t see how he forces her to do what he wants by using her emotions against her, I think she stays with him for now until she realizes that. When have you made a important choice to stay in a relationship or leave a relationship -- OR -- stay or leave a difficult situation? Life Choice: To Tell the Truth?2/10/2018 In What You Don't Know, Lulu Wang writes about a time when her family lies to her grandmother.
Did you agree with the family's choice to deceive Wang's grandmother? I agree with the family's choice to deceive Wang's grandmother. Although they kept medical information away from Wang's grandmother they kept her happy by making sure she doesn't know information that would upset or worry her. Lulu Wang said that they didn't expect her grandmother to live for much longer because she had cancer. If they had told her grandmother she was going to die, she would have spent the next couple months worried about when she will get worse. Since they didn't tell her, her grandmother she wasn't worried about when she will get worse or anything. So I agree with their family's choice to deceive by not telling Wang's grandmother about her medical information. When have you made an important choice to tell someone a difficult truth or you made an important choice to tell a lie that had a major impact on you and/or someone else? Life Choice: The Powers That Be?2/3/2018 In My Name is Margaret, Maya Angelou writes about an African American lady named Margaret. In the story, Margaret works as a servant for a woman who mistreats her by changing her name to Mary because the woman thought Margaret was too difficult to pronounce and because she was told to by her friends who as well have servants who they changed their names of as well.
Did you agree with Margaret's choice to break the casserole dish and two green glass cups? I say I agree with Margaret’s choice to break the casserole dish and two green glass cups. To some people their names are what matter most to them and shortening or changing it without having regard to how the person might feel would seem like they have no respect. Especially in the time period they’re living in the story, where African Americans were forced to be servants and also called names they didn’t like. So trying to pronounce their name and also not changing it would probably feel more appreciative considering she has already been disrespected enough because of ethnicity and skin color.
